Square Home 4: Modern Material Design & Advanced Customization

Hello Square Home users!

We are thrilled to announce a major update that brings a fresh, modern aesthetic and even more powerful customization tools to your favorite launcher. This update focuses on beauty, fluidity, and efficiency.

Here is what’s new:

1. Reimagined with Jetpack Compose & Material Design

We’ve completely overhauled the app's interface using Jetpack Compose, Android’s modern toolkit for native UI. This transition allowed us to fully implement the latest Material Design principles. You will notice smoother animations, more responsive interactions, and a refined, polished look that feels more intuitive and consistent with the modern Android experience.

2. New Tile Background Effects: "Inverse" Mode

We are expanding our visual library with two unique background effects designed to make your layout stand out:

The "Inverse" effects create a striking visual hierarchy by applying the effect to the area around the tile or creating a high-contrast focal point. It’s a sophisticated way to highlight specific apps or contacts on your home screen.

3. Finer Control: Custom "Round Radius"

Detail matters. You can now find the "Round radius" option within the Tile Size and Style settings. This allows you to precisely control the corner softness of your tiles. Whether you prefer the classic sharp-edged squares, trendy rounded rectangles, or something in between, the choice is now entirely yours.

4. Efficient Navigation: Search in Home Options

As Square Home offers more features than ever, we want to make sure you can find what you need instantly. We have added a Search feature directly within the Home options. Instead of scrolling through menus, simply type a keyword to jump straight to the setting you want to adjust.

These updates are designed to make Square Home more intuitive and customizable. The latest version is now rolling out on the Google Play Store.

Note: If you would like to try these features and other experimental updates ahead of the official release, you can join the Open Beta program through our app page on the Google Play Store.

Thank you for using Square Home.

The "System wallpaper" is a normal Android wallpaper system and you can see that in your lock screen or in even another launcher after selecting it. The "App wallpaper" is applied only inside of Square home app but you can use some beautiful tile background effects on it. Square Home currently supports a total of five tile background effects. Go to Home options > Tile sizes and styles > Background effect and select one of the following effects. 1. No effect This is the default value when you first install the launcher. You can disable the wallpaper or use System wallpaper or App wallpaper to use this effect. If you disable the wallpaper, it uses a black background color, which you can change in Home options > Behavior and UI > Background color. It looks a bit boring at first, but you can use different tile colors and rounded corners to create a nice screen like this. Background ...

Live Tiles

Live tile  is one of the most attractive features of Windows phone. It displays continuously useful information on tiles in real time with charming animations. There are several ways to make tiles "Live" on Square home as well. I'm sure you could make your home awesome by applying the following ways. 1. Displaying notifications on tile When you get a notification from an app, you should expand the notification panel from the status bar to see the content. Now you do not have to pull down the status bar anymore because Square home displays the notification on the app tile that is added into your page. Notifications on tile To activate this feature,  - go to "Live tile" in Home options.  - select "Notifications".  - enable Square home in the notification access. The app icon and notification text are switched continuously on the tile with some cool animation. If the notification contains a picture in its content, it will be displayed as ...
